Style Tip – How to Wear Berry Lipstick

This might sound weird, but one of my favorite things about fall is finally being able to wear dark berry lipsticks. It’s not that you can’t wear these colors during the summer or spring – you definitely can! – I just personally like to save them for the cooler months of the year. A nice, bold berry lip color looks so great with fall’s other popular shades.

The only problem? Figuring out which lipstick to buy! There are hundreds, if not thousands, of options out there, and lots of questions to answer. Do you want to go super dark or lighter? Do you want a matte finish or a glossy one? Do you want a hint of sparkle or something with no shine at all? Do you want to splurge a little bit, or would you rather spend less than $20?

Whatever you preference is, I bet you’ll find something you love in this list. Here are 14 bold berry lipsticks you have to try this year. I’ve tested these out, so I can tell you firsthand that they are awesome. Shop away!

1. trèStiQue Matte Color & Shiny Balm Lip Crayon in Belize Bordeaux

I love trèStiQue because of the amazing packaging. This lipstick is double-sided, and it’s magnetic, so you don’t need to worry about losing the caps. This is the perfect option if you like your lipstick all different ways: matte or more like a balm. One side is a matte crayon in a really pretty berry color that isn’t super bold, and the other side is a more sheer balm. Wear one or the other, or layer them for a really unique look. This is perfect for berry lipstick beginners!

2. Lipstick Queen Bete Noire in Possessed Sheer

I just started using Lipstick Queen recently, and I’m completely obsessed – especially with the Bete Noir collection. This lipstick looks super dark and intimidating, but it’s actually not at all! It goes on sheer, and is one of the prettiest sheer berry colors I’ve ever seen. It’s perfect if you want something dark, but not too dark. It lasts all day, and the little tube is super chic.

3. Lipstick Queen Bete Noire in Possessed Intense

Or maybe you’re like, “Uh, Jessica, I actually do want something super dark.” Okay, great – then go for the Intense shade in Lipstick Queen’s Bete Noir. This one looks like such a dark purple that it could be confused for black. But fear not: it’s actually a gorgeous dark berry. This is more matte and is definitely on the bold side, but it’s also really, really pretty.

4. Make Up For Ever Rogue Artist Lipstick in Satin Blackcurrant

I wish this product shot did this shade justice. It’s a gorgeous dark berry, more similar to the Lipstick Queen pick above. When you first put it on, it looks like a very dark red. Layer it more, and it’s so dark that it almost looks black. It will definitely make a statement!

5. Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Napa Vineyard

I’m so into this Burt’s Bees crayon because it’s actually moisturizing, which is really nice – sometimes dark, matte colors have a tendency to be a little dry. This crayon is great. It’s so cheap and the color is awesome. This is more of a red than a berry – a deep red, though. It’s a little different from the rest of these, but it’s still so good.

6. LAQA&Co Fat Lip Pencil in Palate Cleanser

I’m obsessed with LAQA&Co’s Fat Lip Crayons. They go on super smooth and leave your lips feeling soft even after hours of wearing them. The color stays strong too, even when eating and drinking. While it’s not super matte, which I usually prefer, it’s the perfect texture. I am truly in love with this color. It’s a deep berry-red, and it’s super flattering and not too in-your-face. I wear it all the time.

7. Manic Panic Lipstick in Glamourose

There are a few great things about this lipstick. One is that the color is such a pretty berry, and two is that the studded case is so cute. This lipstick features a hint of sparkle that keeps it from being super dark and bold. It’s just really pretty to look at!

8. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Vamp

I figured I’d show you guys a picture of myself wearing this so you could really see what it looks like. I love this Liquid Lipstick. Once it goes on, you really do not have to worry about it coming off. So, if you’re looking for a lip color that lasts for hours through everything, go for this one – it doesn’t budge. I will say it’s a little dry, but the intensity of the color and how long it lasts more than makes up for it. Vamp has more of a brown hue to it, and it’s very ’90s – right on trend for 2015.

9. Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow Lip Crayon in Apollo

I am clearly so into Lipstick Queen right now! If you want a berry color that isn’t too intense, this is a great crayon. It feels hydrating, and it gives off a very nice deep magenta shade. It’s so easy to apply and goes on really smooth.

10. Mary Kay Velvet Lip Creme in Naturally Chic

This Mary Kay shade is a little bit different than the rest of these because it’s not as much of a berry hue. It has a more neutral feel to it, which is what you want and need sometimes! This is perfect for the days when you want a little color but also want to be more natural.

11. Tarte Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint in Tempted

Tarte’s Lipsurgence crayons are awesome. They are so moisturizing and feel almost like a balm. This color looks intimidating, but goes on much more sheer than you would think. This is another one that is great for berry beginners.

12. Jay Manuel Beauty Lipstick in Ache

Jay Manuel of America’s Next Top Model fame recently came out with a beauty line, and so far, I’m really into it – especially this dark lip color. I was pleasantly surprised by the intensity. Just one swipe produced a beautiful dark berry shade, and I didn’t even feel like I needed more than that!

13. Hot Makeup Red Carpet Ready Lipstick in Enjoy

Lipstick colors tend to look different on everyone, and for me, I found that this Hot Makeup lipstick looks like a very dark pink rather than a verry. That is definitely not a bad thing – the color is gorgeous and perfect for fall days. It also feels very smooth, and I love the rose gold colored case.

14. Honest Beauty Truly Kissable Lip Crayon in Mulberry Kiss

Jessica Alba’s Honest Company just released their new beauty line, and it’s really awesome. This lip crayon is proof! It feels so hydrating, almost like you’re putting on chapstick. This color is a dark magenta, which is so pretty and a great fall spin on bright shades.
